BANGKOK, THAILAND – Nissan Thailand recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Khon Kaen University (KKU) and Mitsubishi Company (Thailand) Limited to promote the benefits of EV beyond mobility. Nissan provides the Nissan LEAF for its bi-directional charging capability to conduct the research and study under "The EV's V2H charging prototype toward Net Zero Carbon Project". This marks the first and biggest V2H study project with a university in Thailand.
The ceremony took place at Khon Kaen University in Khon Kaen and was presided over by Suthep Anecdote, Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Province and Theerasak Teekayuphan, Khon Kaen Mayor.

The partnership with KKU and Mitsubishi Company (Thailand) Limited is part of Nissan's Blue Switch initiative aimed at creating a more sustainable Thai society by exploring the potential of EVs beyond mobility. Leveraging the unique bi-directional charging capability of the Nissan LEAF can help address social issues such as carbon reduction, energy management, ecotourism, and disaster relief.
Nissan LEAF can act as a portable power station with a battery that has a capacity of up to 40 kWh, providing enough electricity to power to home (V2H). During the power outage, it can last up to 2-3 days amount electricity for Thai family electricity (as per consumption around 13.3 kWh of general households per day in Thailand).

While Thailand is accelerating plans to become carbon neutral by 2050 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2065. Nissan Motor also has set the goal to achieve carbon neutrality across the company's operations and the life cycle of its products by 2050.
During the event, Nissan R&D specialists also demonstrated energy conversion between electric vehicles and electric systems with a bidirectional charging technology as well as to share the technical expertise to support the implementation as well as knowledge sharing with students, personnel and professors.
