BANGKOK, Thailand The all-new Nissan LEAF electric vehicle (EV) successfully climbed to the peak of Thailand's highest mountain, part of a 200km test drive to prove the vehicle's abilities at high altitude and terrains, and how far it can travel on a single charge.

Responding to customer questions around how far an EV can travel on one charge, automotive experts, IT journalists and lifestyle media participated in this ambitious road test in the all-new LEAF, experiencing the vehicle's amazing performance and regenerative braking system.

"Consumers often ask how far a Nissan LEAF can travel with one charge, and might have a misconception that it cant handle long distances or topographies. So to put the Nissan LEAF to the test of range, performance, innovation, and comfort, we created this drive that included an ascent on the single lane road to the top of Doi Inthanon and a 200km round trip to show the vehicle's capabilities," said Ramesh Narasimhan, president, Nissan in Thailand.

The drive started in downtown Chiang Mai, climbed to the top of Doi Inthanon, and then returned to the hotel – all on a single overnight charge. Regenerative braking in the all-new Nissan LEAF can help increase range when the brakes are applied or speed is reduced, with the electric motor acting as a generator by converting energy that would otherwise be lost into battery energy. Up to 20% of total kWh usage of potential power can be gained back, depending on the driving behavior and slope of the route.  The LEAF's `B-mode' allows the driver to engage an even more aggressive level of regenerative braking while decelerating.

"The descent allowed us to showcase the power of the unique regenerative braking system and e-Pedal technologies –which can help increase range. Our Nissan LEAF full battery EV delivered outstanding performance that conquered  even Thailand's highest mountain," he said.

The mountain drive also allowed interaction with the all-new LEAF's innovative Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM) technologies during the drive, including e-Pedal. This is a technology that lets drivers start, accelerate, decelerate, and stop using only one accelerator pedal. This permits for a more comfortable driving experience, both in-town and on the mountain.

To add a level of safety and enhanced comfort on the challenging mountain drive, the all-new Nissan LEAF additionally features Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Forward Emergency Braking (FEB), and Intelligent Around View Monitor (IAVM), which gives a 360-degree views of the vehicle's position in relation to surrounding objects.

The all-new Nissan LEAF's power output, 320 nm of torque, and dramatic acceleration delivered a comfortable ride while smoothly navigating around every corner and curve along the way.

Customers who reserve the all-new Nissan LEAF now will receive a three-year or 100,000-kilometer vehicle warranty, an EV system warranty for five years or 100,000 kilometers, and a battery deterioration warranty for eight years or 160,000 kilometers.
