MELBOURNE, Australia - The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder will be on sale in Nissan showrooms across Australia from March. This updated version of Nissan's popular full-size SUVis packed with more power, better handling, a freshened exterior look along with enhanced safety and technology.
As with the current-model Pathfinder, the new 2017 version will come equipped with seating for up to seven occupants and offered in both two- and four-wheel-drive configurations. There will be three equipment-rich model grades in the range.
During the last 30 years, close to 70,000 Pathfinders have been sold in Australia, making it one of Australia's most popular SUV models," said Richard Emery, Managing Director and CEO of Nissan Australia. "And for 2017, we have packed it with more safety, technology and user-friendliness, making it an even more compelling choice for work, play and family adventures. This updated Pathfinder boasts enhancements in style, performance and safety, matched with competitive value that closely mirrors 2016 pricing."
A summary of the Nissan Intelligent Mobility highlights in the 2017 Pathfinder follows.
Nissan Intelligent Power
Pathfinder's already-impressive credentials step up with this updated 2017 version. Its improved 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine now delivers more power and torque with more than 50 percent of its componentry either new or new-to-Pathfinder, including a revised combustion chamber design, new pistons, new intake manifold and e-VTC (electronic Variable Timing Control). The compression ratio has also been raised to 11.0:1 (from the previous 10.3:1).

The V6 engine's new Direct Injection Gasoline™ (DIG) system provides better wide-open throttle performance and improved fuel economy and emissions performance (compared to a non-direct-injection system). The switch to a mirror-bore cylinder coating reduces engine weight by just over one kilogram and reduces friction between the piston ring and the cylinder wall. The technology eliminates the need for a heavy cast iron cylinder liner.
Nissan's efficient and responsive QR25DE supercharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid petrol engine will carry over into the 2017 Pathfinder. Delivering up to 188kW of power and 330Nm of torque it returns an impressive rate of fuel consumption of 8.6-litres per 100km travelled (combined cycle**).
Slightly stiffer suspension and quicker steering response have improved body control for a more confident ride and controlled handling.
All 2017 Pathfinder models are equipped with Nissan's third-generation Xtronic transmission. The Xtronic transmission includes D-Step Logic Control, which simulates shifts in a stepped gearbox, giving a more natural feeling when driving. The new Pathfinder's powertrain delivers the real-world driving benefits of more responsive acceleration and re-acceleration, such as when entering highways or passing.
Nissan Intelligent Driving
The 2017 Pathfinder's is packed with advanced safety and driver assistance technology. The ST-L (mid) and Ti (top) model grades now includeIntelligent Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), and Moving Object Detection (MOD), which can detect movement behind the vehicle when reversing, has been added to the available Intelligent Around View® Monitor (AVM), which gives the driver a 360-degree aerial view when reversing. Also available are Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
Expressive Design
The Pathfinder's updated appearance incorporates the latest Nissan design signature "V-Motion" grille and headlights with boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights.
Other exterior enhancements include a new, more aggressive bonnet, new front bumper and fog lights. The outside rearview mirrors now include standard integrated turn signals. In the rear, changes include new taillights and a stronger bumper design.
Another significant addition for 2017 is the Motion-Activated tailgate with tailgate position memory available on Ti models. A simple wave of the foot under the centre of the tailgate activates the power opening function.
Also added for 2017 are 18-inch (ST and ST-L) and 20-inch (Ti) machined aluminum-alloy wheels in new designs.
