About Datsun
Datsun is the third global brand of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., alongside Nissan and INFINITI. Datsun represents 80 years of accumulated Japanese car-making expertise and is an important part of the company's heritage. Today it offers personal mobility and a worry-free ownership experience to customers in high-growth markets, such as India, Indonesia, Russia
Datsun's history
Datsun originated in Japan as DAT-GO (the DAT car) in 1914. "DAT" was a combination of the initials of the three financiers who supported the business at the time. It also means "fleeing hare" in Japanese – a reference to agile, dynamic cars. In 1933, one of Nissan's founding fathers, Yoshisuke Aikawa, took over the business with a vision of "mobility for all." A lightweight and economical, yet resilient car meeting the aspirations of Japanese people in the early 1930s was named the "son of DAT" – Datson – which later was changed to Datsun. Local engineering and mass production made the founder's dream a reality.
