Bangkok – Nissan opened the door of its manufacturing plant in Samut Prakarn to welcome young students from nearby communities, giving them an opportunity to experience new ways to use EVs to contribute to a cleaner world and a sustainable society. The activity is aimed at seeding environmental and social responsibility into young students joining the Youth Leadership Development Programme (YLD), which Nissan has been sponsored for 3 years.
This year, it is the first time that Nissan welcomed primary school students, the youngest ever joining Nissan Electrification Experience Center. At the event, 100 primary school students from Wat Chorakae Yai School and Phrom Pikulthong School had the opportunity to see and experience Nissan's electric and electrified vehicles such as Nissan Kicks e-POWER, and Nissan LEAF.
What wowed them more is when they learned that advanced technology like bi-directional charging technology can turn a car into a mobile power generating plant. The power from an electric car can be distributed back to the grid. In an emergency like natural disaster and power blackout occurs, an owner of an electric car can use the electricity from their own car to power household electrical appliances while waiting for help. They also expressed strong interest of the study which jointly conducted by Nissan and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand on this matter.
Moreover, many students were excited to know that millions of great cars on the road in Thailand and over 190 countries worldwide were produced here at the Nissan plant in their neighborhood. Learning this, many said with surprise how much they were proud of Thai people's skills whom some of Nissan's employees are their parents, relatives or family members.
Isao Sekiguchi, President of Nissan Thailand, said, "It is very important to ensure that young generation learn more about electric vehicles (EVs) which will be a future of mobility, and EVs can contribute to a cleaner world and a sustainable society. Therefore, we have invited students in nearby schools to visit our plant and learn from our Nissan Energy Share concept."
YLD is a cooperation programme held by Nissan Care International Japan and Raks Thai Foundation. Initiated in 2019, the programme was aimed at promoting leadership and required vocational skills for entrepreneurs among targeted young people. Starting from students in 16 schools in Ayutthaya, Rayong and Samut Prakarn, the programme has seen significant progress as the number of participating students reached over 2,100 students in 2022.
