MELBOURNE, Australia – Nissan Australia today announced plans for the establishment of an all-new National Parts Distribution Centre.

This new state-of-the-art warehousing and logistics facility is planned to be one of Australia’s best automotive parts and accessories distribution centres and the largest single-span logistics facility in the country. The 22,500 square-metre warehouse, to be built in the Melbourne suburb of Truganina, will replace the company’s current operation in Dandenong South and will feature industry-leading technology and processes for the fast and efficient movement of automotive parts and accessories from the three automotive brands of the Renault-Nissan Alliance: Nissan, Renault and Infiniti.

“This is an important investment for the benefit of both our customers and our dealers,” said Richard Emery, Managing Director and CEO of Nissan Australia. “Providing fast and efficient aftersales support is an essential part of our customer care program in Australia and the establishment of this new National Parts Distribution Centre will further improve our ability to deliver this via our national dealer network.”

Construction of the new warehouse facility will be directed by CEVA Logistics, Nissan’s provider of parts logistics services in Australia. This new facility is currently scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016 and operational at the start of 2017. The new warehouse’s clever design will allow operations to be scaled as required and it will be able to house and process every available spare part and accessory from the three global automotive brands; from the smallest fasteners and seals to complete vehicle body structures.

When open, Nissan’s new National Parts Distribution Centre will service Renault-Nissan Alliance dealers in all states of Australia and the facility has been designed so they are serviced with deliveries of parts and accessories that are both accurate and quick to arrive.

This new site has been designed to meet the requirements for a top, six-Green-Star sustainability rating, the Green Building Council’s highest level of certification for sustainable building design. It will be Australia’s first six-star energy rated parts distribution centre. When completed, the new site will include the following:

  • Solar power: A 300kW capacity solar panel system comprising 1,170 solar panels to generate approximately 400,000kW of power in the site’s first year of operation, enough power to operate the facility during daylight hours; excess power to be fed to the surrounding electrical grid
  • LED lighting: all internal lighting will comprise LEDs (light-emitting diodes) for reduced electricity use Harvested water storage: 100,000 litres of water storage for landscape irrigation and the operation of bathrooms
  • Double-glazing: All external windows will be double-glazed and filled with Argon gas to optimise the building’s insulation performance for reduced energy consumption when heated and cooled

The location of this new National Parts Distribution Centre, Truganina, in metropolitan Melbourne’s western suburbs, was selected to take advantage of nearby infrastructure. The area is widely regarded as a popular freight hub and Nissan’s new facility will be located near Melbourne Airport, the port of Melbourne and various key arterial roads such as the Western Ring Road, which connect to various national road networks.
