New Nissan Serena e-POWER launches in Hong Kong

HONG KONG – Nissan and Honest Motors today launched the new Nissan Serena e-POWER, Japan's best-selling Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), in Hong Kong. Available from 25 Oct 2019, it marks the debut of Nissan's e-POWER electrified powertrain in Hong Kong. Following the new Nissan LEAF and e-NV200, this is the third electrified vehicle in Nissan's line-up to be launched locally.

The new Serena e-POWER features a fresh new look both inside and outside while carrying on the traditions established by previous models as a versatile trusted commuter. The MPV boasts all the hallmarks of the previous successful Serena – such as spacious seating, ease of access and convenient utilities, including multiple seating configurations. These features have helped making the previous model the top-selling MPV in 2018 and 2019 to-date in Hong Kong.

Revolutionary e-POWER technology

"Demonstrating the leading position of Nissan in electrified mobility and realizing the commitment stated in Nissan Futures in March 2019, the revolutionary e-POWER technology is now launched in Hong Kong with the new Nissan Serena," announced by Ray Cheung, General Sales Manager, Honest Motors Ltd., dealer of Nissan in Hong Kong.

Nissan's proprietary e-POWER system is an iconic Intelligent Power technology that is part of the Nissan Intelligent Mobility vision to transform the way people drive and live.

e-POWER features full electric-motor drive, meaning that the wheels are completely driven by the electric motor. The power from a high-output battery is delivered to the e-POWER's compact powertrain comprised of a gasoline engine, power generator, inverter, and a motor. This gives drivers the EV driving experience yet eliminates the need for plug-in charging.

In conventional hybrid systems, the electric motor is mated to the gasoline engine to drive the wheels together. However, in the e-POWER system, the gasoline engine is not connected to the wheels; it simply charges the battery.

e-POWER delivers massive torque almost instantly, which enhances drive response and results in smooth acceleration. Serena e-POWER's electric motor provides torque of 32.5kg-m, which is an almost 60% increment comparing to the conventional model. Together with the 136PS horsepower, it results in a confident and exciting driving experience. Also, the system operates very quietly, much like a full EV. Because e-POWER relies on the engine much less frequently, its fuel efficiency is much better than leading conventional hybrids, especially during around-the-town commutes.

Nissan Serena e-POWER is equipped with three driving modes – Smart, ECO and Normal. The e-POWER's S (Smart) or ECO mode offers the convenience of acceleration and deceleration by only using Nissan's innovative One-Pedal Drive technology.

One-Pedal allows the driver to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop using only the accelerator pedal. Lift off the accelerator pedal and One-Pedal mimics stepping on the brake pedal, allowing the vehicle to slow down and even come to a complete stop. In stop-and-go city traffic, One-Pedal greatly reduces the need to shift from one pedal to the other, making driving simpler and more engaging.

The advanced regenerative braking of the One-Pedal Drive technology also harnesses a high amount of energy back to recharge the battery and increase fuel efficiency. One-Pedal furthermore reduces wear and tear on the brake pads as brake pedal application decreases by nearly 70%.

Stunning and dynamic styling

The new Serena features a refreshed exterior design that effectively communicates its high level of technology and premium qualities. In front, the V-motion grille is in larger size with a unique chrome pattern. The blue accent symbolizing the advanced nature of e-POWER, makes the grille even more appealing and eye-catching. The front bumper receives sharper accents with an integrated chin spoiler. Equipped with exclusive 16-inch aluminum wheels, it offers a subtle hint of the powerful performance within.

The new Serena e-POWER is available in 13 different shades, including two new options: Sunrise Orange mimics the rich orange brilliance of a new dawn, while Dark Metal Gray emphasizes its sharp-looking body lines. Both new exterior colors are optioned with a two-tone paint scheme that includes Diamond Black paint on the roof, providing the Serena with a distinctively sporty character.

Luxurious and thoughtful interior

The seven-seater Serena e-POWER comes with second-row individual captain seat and armrest, creating more space and comfort for each passenger, which delivers a premium hospitality. Echo the premium, factory-fitted, latest upmarket upholstery trend: 3D quilted full leather seats. Improvement on comfort does not mean sacrifice in flexibility. The model retains high flexibility and user-friendliness, including a 12 seating configurations, 16 cupholders and six USB chargers.

Confident drive with Nissan Intelligent Mobility

The Serena e-POWER comes equipped with Nissan Intelligent Mobility features, designed to deliver a more confident driving experience. Intelligent Around View Monitor (IAVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD) provides a virtual bird's-eye view of the vehicle which allows the driver to quickly understand the vehicle and parking space orientation. If the cameras detect a moving object around the vehicle, either when the vehicle is stopped or when it starts moving, the system warns the driver with visual and audible warning.

Nissan Serena e-POWER is assigned a JNCAP five-star safety rating, the highest possible from Japan New Car Assessment Programme (JNCAP). With a total of ten airbags (including front airbags, side airbags and curtain airbags), automatically adjusted pre-tensioner seatbelts and the front seats, three-point seatbelts and headrest for all, the safety of each passenger on board is ensured.
